Not your granny's quilts

has a rotating online gallery of quilts has formulated a new definition to define the art form:
"The art quilt is a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."

  There's something about a quilt that transcends the daily definition of visual art.  That "got to touch it urge" doesn't come from the signs warning against same.  But the involvement of the tactile sense can't  be underestimated. Maybe this alone could account for it's special "approachable" quality. Have a look...
